Christopher Towse is a Professor of Mathematics and holds the Herron Family Chair in Mathematics at Scripps College. His academic history includes a B.S. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an M.S. and Ph.D. from Brown University. His research focuses on Arithmetic Geometry, Riemann Surfaces (Weierstrass points), Number Theory (generalized continued fractions), and Combinatorics (chain partitions).
He has received the Mary Johnson Faculty Achievement Award (Teaching) in 2001, 2003, 2006, and 2013. He secured a $275,000 NSF grant to lead the Claremont Colleges Mathematics REU Site (2009–2011). He also received Faculty Research Support Grants in 2000–2001 and 2014–2015. Towse teaches a wide range of courses, including Calculus, Linear Algebra, Number Theory, Abstract Algebra, and Complex Analysis.
His work emphasizes interdisciplinary connections, such as the Core III course 'Mathematics in Our Culture,' reflecting his commitment to both advanced mathematical research and pedagogy.
