Ghassan Y. Sarkis is an Associate Professor of Mathematics and Statistics at Pomona College, part of The Claremont Colleges. He has been affiliated with Pomona since 2002 and holds office at Estella Laboratory 2377. His research expertise spans formal group theory, local arithmetic dynamics, extremal combinatorics, and the mathematics of data science, with foundational training in number theory.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Mathematics, Brown University
- Master of Arts in Mathematics, Brown University
- Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, University of Chicago
Teaching & Awards: Known for excellence in teaching, Sarkis received the Pomona College Wig Distinguished Professorship Award twice (2009 & 2014). He teaches advanced courses including Abstract Algebra I/II, Calculus III, Linear Algebra, and oversees independent research projects.
Research Focus: Integrates algebraic structures (formal groups, p-adic dynamics) with combinatorial problems and data science applications, reflecting interdisciplinary interests in pure and applied mathematics.
