Christopher Standish is a Research Fellow at the University of Southampton, specializing in isotope geochemistry, palaeoclimate, archaeological science, and laser ablation systems. His work bridges marine geochemistry and archaeological applications, focusing on the analysis of marine carbonates and historical human-environment interactions.
Research Interests: Standish employs advanced techniques like inductively-coupled-plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) and laser ablation systems for in-situ geochemical analysis. His current research investigates B and U-Th isotopes in scleractinian corals to reconstruct palaeoenvironmental conditions (pH, temperature) and date formations. This work is central to the ERC-funded Microns2Reefs project, which aims to understand coral skeleton growth mechanisms and predict reef responses to climate change. Additionally, he applies isotope geochemistry to archaeology, exploring raw material procurement (gold/silver via Pb isotopes), population mobility (Sr isotopes), and U-series dating of speleothems.
Publications: His recent articles focus on high-resolution geochemical imaging of marine carbonates, U-Th dating of cave art, and isotopic insights into medieval trade networks. These works emphasize interdisciplinary applications of geochemistry to both climate science and archaeology.
