Professor Christopher Sharpley holds a dual role as Professor of Neuroscience and Chair of Research in the School of Science & Technology at the University of New England (UNE). With over four decades of clinical psychology experience, he transitioned from teaching and clinical practice to neuroscientific research. His expertise spans neurobiology of depression, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and anxiety, with a focus on neuroimaging (EEG) and clinical neuroscience. He previously served as Founding Dean of Bond University’s Faculty of Health Sciences & Medicine.

Research Interests: His work explores endocrine/immunological pathways of depression, anxiety in prostate cancer patients, and ASD neurobiology. He employs EEG connectivity methods to study sensory features and neural correlates of depression subtypes. Recent studies include network analysis of ASD symptomatology and depression resilience in cancer patients.
Publications & Awards: Over 350 peer-reviewed papers, 1 authored book, and 100+ conference presentations. Recognitions include Fellowships from the Australian Psychological Society and Royal Society of NSW.
Advising & Grants: Supervised >20 PhD students and 50+ Masters candidates. Collaborates with Homes North on homelessness and mental health initiatives. Active in clinical psychology education through courses like Neurobiology and Treatment of Depression (NEUR340/540).
Labs/Teams: Leads UNE’s Neuroscience research group focusing on translational studies between clinical manifestations and neurobiological mechanisms, particularly in depression and ASD.
