Christopher Rego

Dr. Christopher Rego is a Principal Lecturer at the Department of Natural Sciences, Manchester Metropolitan University. He holds a BSc(Hons) in Chemistry and a PhD in microwave spectroscopy from the University of Bristol. His research focuses on chemical vapour deposition (CVD) of carbon-based materials, molecular spectroscopy, and hydrogen bonding. He has over 80 peer-reviewed publications and is internationally recognized for work on CVD diamond films, graphene synthesis, and functionalized fullerenes.

Rego has served as a Chartered Chemist (CChem) and held leadership roles in the Royal Society of Chemistry, including Chair of the Manchester and District Section (2008–2010). He contributes to academic governance through editorial board memberships (e.g., Vacuum journal) and external examining roles at institutions like London Metropolitan University. His teaching specializes in Physical Chemistry, emphasizing problem-solving and interactive learning.

His research interests include CVD applications for optical coatings, electrochemical electrodes, and biomedical diamond coatings. Recent work explores graphene growth via CVD on copper substrates. Rego’s expertise spans spectroscopic techniques like rotational spectroscopy and gas-phase complex analysis, with contributions to understanding molecular interactions and material properties.
