Christopher Rakes

Christopher Rakes is a Professor and Graduate Program Director of the MAT program in the Department of Education at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Louisville (2010). His research focuses on integrating technology into mathematics education, addressing mathematics misconceptions, and enhancing teacher professional development. He previously coordinated peer reviews for grant proposals at the Institute of Education Sciences and edited reports for the National Center for Education Statistics.

Dr. Rakes teaches in the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, emphasizing practical applications of pedagogical frameworks. His work spans secondary and postsecondary mathematics education, with a focus on supporting at-risk students. He has led initiatives to structure teacher preparation programs using evidence-based frameworks like PrimeD, emphasizing teacher professionalism and pedagogical rigor.
