Dr. Christopher Peet is a Professor of Psychology at The King's University. He holds a PhD in Psychology from the University of Alberta (2004) and a BA Honours in Religious Studies from the same institution (1997). His research focuses on the intersection of psychology, spirituality, and historical consciousness, particularly exploring the Axial Age's relevance to contemporary global crises. He teaches courses on topics such as the psychology of religion, social psychology, and ecopsychology.
Peet's work integrates continental philosophy (phenomenology, existentialism) with ecological and technological critiques of modernity. He emphasizes spiritual practices like centering prayer as responses to existential and environmental challenges. His 2019 book Practicing Transcendence examines Axial Age spiritual traditions for addressing today's crises. He has supervised numerous student research projects on topics ranging from parapsychology to technology's societal impacts.
Peet actively engages in interdisciplinary collaboration, co-supervising projects on oil sands development ethics and Edmonton's Christian spiritual practices. His research highlights the need for deep historical and cultural roots to navigate ecological, political, and technological upheavals.
