Christopher N. Matthews is a historical archaeologist and Professor of Anthropology at Montclair State University, where he serves as Chairperson of the Department of Anthropology within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. His research focuses on the archaeology and history of marginalized and racialized communities in North America, particularly in the mid-Atlantic region, with an emphasis on community-engaged research and teaching. He has authored and edited influential works such as *The Archaeology of American Capitalism* and *The Archaeology of Race in the Northeast*. Current projects include investigations into historic African American communities in New Jersey, settler/slaveowner sites, and Native American ceremonial landscapes in Sussex County.
