Christopher Murray

Christopher Murray is a Cello Tutor at the Department of Strings, Harp & Guitar within the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He is also the cellist of the Heath String Quartet, renowned for international performances and recordings. His roles include concerto soloist with orchestras like the Norfolk Symphony and Tyneside Chamber, and collaborations with composers such as Hans Abrahamsen and Brett Dean.

Education & Early Career: Awarded scholarships at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM), where he won the Barbirolli Prize. Supported by trusts including the Musician’s Benevolent Fund and Countess of Munster Musical Trust.

Research & Performance: Specializes in classical cello performance, chamber music, and string quartet repertoire. Notable performances include Beethoven cycles in Salamanca/Edinburgh, Wigmore Hall collaborations, and recordings with the Heath Quartet (e.g., Bartók, Tchaikovsky, Tippett).
