Christopher Michael Ocker is Honorary Professor at the University of Divinity's Faculty of Theology and Philosophy. His research spans medieval and early modern religious history, focusing on biblical exegesis, Reformation conflicts, and prayer literature.
Ocker analyzes textual traditions from Theodulf of Orléans to Reformation figures, examining Hebrew influences on Christian interpretation and the material culture of religious practice. Recent work explores Pierre d'Ailly's Song of Songs commentary and hybrid religious forces during the Reformation.
Publications investigate medieval mourning practices, the desacralization of religious objects, and financial aspects of church property secularization. His book 'The Hybrid Reformation' (2022) presents a social and intellectual history of contending religious forces.
Ocker maintains international collaborations and contributes to studies on Western religious materiality.
