Christopher Merrill is a Professor of English at the University of Iowa and Director of the International Writing Program. His work spans poetry, nonfiction, and translation, with notable publications including Watch Fire, Only the Nails Remain: Scenes from the Balkan Wars, and The Tree of the Doves. His writings have been translated into 25 languages and appear widely in journalism. He has conducted cultural diplomacy missions to over 40 countries, serving on the U.S. National Commission for UNESCO and the National Council on the Humanities under President Obama.
