Christopher McKernan is a DPhil in Law candidate at Brasenose College, University of Oxford. He concurrently serves as a Lecturer in Law at Mansfield College, teaching Jurisprudence, and has held tutoring roles at Brasenose College, Pembroke College, and St Edmund Hall. He also participates in teaching law, politics, and philosophy to Stanford University undergraduates through exchange programs. As a Graduate Research Resident at the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights, he contributes to human rights research initiatives.
His research focuses on reimagining democratic governance through the integration of sortition and deliberative processes, informed by deliberative constitutionalism and normative political constructivism. This work aims to propose actionable frameworks for constitutional reform and enhanced governance structures.
Christopher holds an LL.M from the University of Cambridge and an LL.B from Queen’s University Belfast. Prior to Oxford, he worked as a Judicial Extern to the Chief Judge of the largest U.S. Federal District Court and engaged in pro bono initiatives with the Cambridge Pro Bono Project and Law Centre Northern Ireland.
