Christopher Livingston serves as a Professor at Montana State University within the College of Arts and Architecture's School of Architecture, teaching design studio and building systems courses including ARCH 564, ARCH 558, and ARCH 356 through Spring 2025. His educational foundation includes a B.Arch. from Montana State University (1985) and an M.Arch. in Architectural Design from the University of Texas-Austin (1994), complemented by 15+ years of professional architectural practice prior to academia.
His research centers on architectural visualization and representation, with evolving focus from Building Information Modeling to field sketching's intersections with film theory, narrative construction, and perceptual boundaries in drawing. This work manifests through international creative contributions including the Curitiba Biennial Pavilion (2024-2025), Ait Bouguemez Valley composite (2020), and multiple entries in the American Society of Architectural Illustrators competitions. His publications reveal consistent exploration of spatial perception across Rome, Verona, and Moroccan contexts, often examining temporal dimensions in architectural representation.
Recognition for his creative output includes the Observational Best of Show (2020), two Kevin Sloan Awards for Travel Sketching (2018, 2016), and multiple juror's choice awards from the Design Communication Association. Professional service encompasses NCARB officer roles (2023-2024), NAAB Board of Advisors participation (2016), and contributions to the 12th Edition of Architectural Graphic Standards. As a licensed Montana architect and AIA member, he bridges academic theory with professional practice through design/build pedagogy and material culture studies.
