Christopher Lewis is an Associate Professor at the University of Oxford, affiliated with Christ Church College. He served as Dean of Christ Church from 2003 to 2014. His academic journey includes a BA in Theology/Sociology from the University of Bristol (1969) and a PhD in Theological Methods from the University of Cambridge (1974). He taught doctrine and ethics at Ripon College and Cuddesdon Theological College (1976–1982). His research focuses on Historical/Systematic Theology, the interplay between religion and reason, secularization, and interfaith worship practices.
His publications include edited volumes on interfaith dialogue, sensible religion, and theological education. Recent works emphasize interdisciplinary approaches to religion, while older contributions explore theological frameworks for understanding cultural change and mortality.
Collaborations with scholars like Dan Cohn-Sherbok and Stephen Platten highlight his commitment to ecumenical and academic partnerships. His scholarship bridges theological rigor with contemporary societal challenges, particularly in pluralistic religious contexts.
