Christopher Jensen

Christopher Jensen, MD, MSCR is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology within the Department of Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine. His clinical practice and research focus on chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), hairy cell leukemia (HCL), lymphoma, and geriatric oncology.

Dr. Jensen completed his undergraduate and medical education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, followed by residency training at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and fellowship at UNC Chapel Hill. He also holds a Master's degree from the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health.

Dr. Jensen's research interests center around geriatric oncology and supportive care, with a particular focus on understanding the unique challenges faced by older adults with hematologic malignancies. His work examines functional status, frailty assessment, cognitive impairment, and quality of life metrics in patients with multiple myeloma, plasma cell disorders, and acute leukemias. He has developed expertise in measuring 'home time' as a patient-centered outcome that reflects quality of life and treatment tolerability among elderly patients with hematologic cancers.

His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on applying geriatric assessment tools to guide treatment decisions for older adults with hematologic malignancies. Dr. Jensen's research has examined how functional status affects treatment receipt and outcomes in multiple myeloma, cognitive impairment in plasma cell disorders, and symptom management in AL amyloidosis. His work bridges the fields of hematology and geriatrics to develop more personalized, age-appropriate treatment approaches.

Dr. Jensen has published extensively in high-impact hematology and oncology journals including Journal of Geriatric Oncology, Haematologica, and Clinical Lymphoma Myeloma and Leukemia.
