Dr. Christopher Henstridge is a Senior Lecturer (Teaching and Research) in Neuroscience at the University of Dundee, where he leads a research group focused on synaptic pathology in neurodegenerative disorders. He earned his PhD from Dundee in 2010 and held postdoctoral positions in Budapest (EMBO Fellow) and the University of Edinburgh before establishing his lab in 2019.
His research examines synaptic breakdown in Alzheimer’s, ALS, and Frontotemporal Dementia using cutting-edge methods like array tomography and synaptic proteomics. Key findings include identifying synapse loss as an early biomarker of cognitive decline in ALS and revealing presynaptic protein dysregulation as a driver of neurodegeneration. His work emphasizes glial-synaptic interactions and mitochondrial dysfunction in disease progression.
Dr. Henstridge has secured major grants including a Dementia Research Leader Fellowship (Alzheimer’s Society) and a Springboard Award (Academy of Medical Sciences). His teaching spans neuropharmacology, neuroscience communications, and medical student tutoring.
