Professor Christopher Griffiths is a Professor of Primary Care at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, Queen Mary University of London. He also serves as Co-Director of the Asthma UK Centre for Applied Research, Visiting Professor at the University of Edinburgh, and Principal Investigator at the MRC-Asthma UK Centre for Allergic Mechanisms in Asthma. He leads the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration North Thames' Population Health Theme and holds fellowships from the Royal College of Physicians, Royal College of General Practitioners, and the Academy of Medical Sciences.
Griffiths studied Physiological Sciences at Keble College, Oxford, earned a D.Phil. in endocrine gut function at Green Templeton College, and qualified as a physician at King’s College London. He has practiced as a general practitioner since 1992.
His research focuses on air pollution’s health impacts, asthma, respiratory diseases, infectious diseases (TB, HIV, hepatitis), vitamin D biology, and domestic violence. Notable contributions include leading trials on the London Ultra Low Emission Zone’s efficacy, hepatitis screening strategies, and vitamin D’s role in respiratory health. His work spans over 35 published trials and meta-analyses.
Key awards include his Academy of Medical Sciences fellowship, recognizing his leadership in translational and population health research. He collaborates widely, with studies frequently published in high-impact journals like Lancet and BMJ.
Griffiths oversees multiple initiatives such as the NIHR-funded London Ultra Low Emission Zone evaluation and the Asthma UK Centre’s applied research programs. His interdisciplinary approach bridges clinical practice, public health policy, and epidemiological research.
