Associate Professor Christopher Graves is an academic and Chartered Accountant at the University of Adelaide's Adelaide Business School, part of the Faculty of Arts, Business, Law and Economics. He directs the Family Business Education and Research Group (FBERG) and has held roles since 2007, including service on the University Council's Audit, Compliance and Risk sub-committee since 2014. Graves holds a Bachelors in Accountancy from the South Australian Institute of Technology, a Masters in Economics from the University of New England, and a PhD from the University of Adelaide.
His research focuses on family-controlled SMEs, including international growth challenges, leadership development, and financial management. Notable contributions include the NextGen eChallenge (2015) and the Catalyst leadership program, both developed with government and industry partners. He has published in journals like Family Business Review and led the KPMG-Family Business Australia National Surveys in 2013, 2015, and 2017. His PhD research earned an international award from the Family Firm Institute (FFI).
Graves advises on family business studies globally, completing a Graduate Diploma in Family Therapy and Systemic Practice (2017). He is an active academic supervisor for Masters and PhD candidates and has served on the board of the International Family Enterprise Research Academy (IFERA).
