Christopher Erickson is a Professor and Garrey E and Katherine T Carruthers Chair for Economic Development at the Department of Economics, Applied Statistics, and International Business in the College of Business at New Mexico State University (NMSU). His academic career spans over four decades, with a Ph.D. in Economics from Arizona State University (1989) and a B.A. in Economics from Willamette University (1980).
His research interests focus on Macroeconomics, Money and Banking, Latin American economies, and Economic Development. Notable areas include the impact of international trade, public debt dynamics in developing nations, and environmental infrastructure financing. He has also explored interdisciplinary topics like biofuel production and wastewater management in arid regions, reflecting his commitment to sustainability and practical policy solutions.
Erickson has secured significant grants, including leadership roles in NSF-funded projects on Food-Energy-Water systems resilience and algae biofuel modeling. His awards include the Daniels Fellow distinction (2011, 2013) and Domenici Fellow recognition (2012).
His publications span diverse topics like dam removal economic impacts, FDI in South America, and systemic risk in banking. Collaborations with institutions like the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory highlight his applied research focus. Erickson’s work bridges theory and practice, addressing both regional and global economic challenges.
