Christopher DeRosa, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of History and Anthropology at Monmouth University. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses focused on the military and political history of the United States, including the Civil War and Reconstruction, the Cold War, and World War II. His research examines the role of American soldiers as political actors and the complexities of military occupation, with a current emphasis on a book project about the U.S. Army’s role in upholding freed people’s rights during Reconstruction.
- Education: Ph.D. from Temple University.
DeRosa's scholarly work bridges military history, political science, and civil rights studies. His publications explore themes like soldier voting in 1944 and ideological training in the U.S. Army during the mid-20th century. His recent courses include advanced seminars on the Civil War, Cold War, and World War II, reflecting his expertise in these pivotal historical periods.
His research and teaching intersect with contemporary political discourse, notably through his analysis of the Electoral College. He argues that the institution historically entrenched racial disparities by amplifying representation for states with suppressed Black votes. This critical perspective underscores his broader engagement with American political systems and their historical roots.
- Scientific Awards: Recipient of Monmouth University’s Distinguished Teaching Award (2018).
