Christopher D. Maxwell is a Professor in the School of Criminal Justice at Michigan State University (MSU) and a member of MSU's Center for Gender in Global Context (GenCen). His research focuses on the efficacy of sanctions and therapeutic interventions for domestic violence perpetrators, the impact of criminal justice responses on victims, and violence against intimate partners and elderly individuals.

- BA (1990) in Sociology, Criminal Justice, and Psychology from Indiana University
Maxwell's work spans intimate partner violence (IPV), elder abuse, police use of force, and crime control strategies. Recent studies explore dementia caregiving stress, coordinated community responses to elder abuse, and firearm-related IPV risks.
He co-leads a major NIA-funded study on medication administration in Alzheimer's caregiving (2021-2026), focusing on chemical restraints and elder abuse prevention. His publications highlight longitudinal analyses of IPV, structural equation modeling, and cross-cultural comparisons.
