Christopher Coutts is a Professor in the Department of Urban & Regional Planning at Florida State University (FSU), with Faculty Affiliate roles in Demography and Population Health, as well as African American Studies. His research focuses on public health ecology and ecological planning, investigating how land use practices and nature conservation support ecosystem services critical to human health and wellbeing. He is a Fulbright Scholar (2019) and an Honors Teaching Scholar in the Green Global Health Honors Program at FSU.
- Education: Ph.D. in Urban, Technological, & Environmental Planning (University of Michigan, 2006); M.P.H. in Health Behavior and Education (New Mexico State University, 2003); B.C.H. in Community Health Education with Honors Distinction (New Mexico State University, 1997).
His research spans interdisciplinary themes such as sustainable development, environmental health, and the intersection of urban planning with public health. Professor Coutts actively collaborates internationally, including partnerships with universities in Botswana and Malawi, and works with Dr. Carlton Basmajian on land use implications of human remains disposal. He has extensive global experience, having lived or worked in over 25 countries across diverse regions.
