Christopher C. Kirby is a Professor of Philosophy at Eastern Washington University. His research focuses on the history of philosophy, comparative thought, and environmental ethics. He explores insights from ancient thinkers like Aristotle and Zhuangzi, alongside modern figures such as Thoreau and John Dewey. Current projects include contrasting moral skill concepts in ancient Greek and Chinese philosophy and their implications for meta-ethics, artificial intelligence, and action theory.
His recent publications include contributions to Eco-Anxiety and Planetary Hope (Oxford, 2022) and Comparative Metaethics (Routledge, 2019). He edited Dewey and the Ancients (Bloomsbury, 2014), examining Hellenic influences in Dewey’s philosophy.
Dr. Kirby’s work bridges environmental philosophy with cross-cultural ethical analysis, emphasizing practical wisdom and nature’s role in moral development.
