Professor Christopher Barratt is a Professor and Head of the Reproductive Medicine Group at the University of Dundee's School of Medicine. He holds an Honorary clinical scientist role with NHS Tayside. With a PhD in Zoology from the University of Birmingham, his career spans post-doctoral research at the University of Sheffield and leadership roles such as Scientific Director of the Birmingham Women’s Hospital ART Centre (1997–2005). He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and has a h-index of 62.
His research focuses on human sperm function and translational medicine, particularly male contraception and infertility. Collaborations include NHS Tayside, Abertay University, and global entities like the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. He has led WHO initiatives on male fertility guidelines and serves on editorial boards of journals like Human Reproduction and Physiological Reviews.
Key achievements include patents on sperm motility stimulation and male infertility diagnostics. He teaches courses in assisted conception and supervises students in reproductive medicine. Recent grants include funding for male contraceptive drug discovery (2023–2026).
Notable awards include the Young Andrologist of the Year and leadership roles in ESHRE. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and gender equality.
