Christopher B. Murray is the Richard Perry University Professor of Chemistry and Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania, affiliated with both the School of Arts and Sciences (SAS) and the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS). His research focuses on nanocrystal synthesis, assembly, and applications in electronics, magnetics, and catalysis. He holds a B.Sc. from St. Mary’s University and a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from MIT. Notable awards include the TR100 Innovator distinction and IBM’s Outstanding Technical Achievement Award.
Research interests emphasize materials chemistry at the nanoscale, particularly engineering nanocrystals for mesoscopic phenomena. Key areas include quantum dots, magnetic nanoparticles, and self-organizing systems. He leads the Christopher B. Murray Lab, advancing nanomaterials for IT, energy, and biomedical applications. Recent work explores dynamic colloidal superlattices and liquid crystal-nanoparticle hybrids.
