معرفی
Christopher A. Jones is the Department Head and Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Kansas State University, holding the Civil Engineering Alumni Professorship Honoring Dr. Robert Snell. He earned his Ph.D., M.S., and B.S. in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University (2011, 2009, 2006) and a B.A. in Physical Science from Southwestern University (2006).
His research focuses on mechanics and materials, with emphasis on Portland cement concrete, computational structural mechanics, and uncertainty quantification. Applications span traditional civil infrastructure, nuclear reactor containment, and nuclear waste storage systems. He develops experimental techniques for nano-scale material characterization and permeability measurements, complemented by predictive computational models.
Prior to academia, Jones worked at Sandia National Laboratories on nuclear energy R&D and at the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. He actively contributes to professional committees of the American Concrete Institute and American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
Teaching is a core focus, with a commitment to innovative classroom techniques. Jones mentors graduate students at master’s/doctoral levels and has authored peer-reviewed publications, conference papers, and research reports.
