Rod Jones is a Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Dundee. His research focuses on cement science, concrete technology, and sustainable construction, with an emphasis on low-carbon materials, durability performance, and industrial by-product utilization. He holds a PhD in cement science from the University of Dundee (1986) and a BSc from the University of Portsmouth (1982). He is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of multiple professional institutions.
Key research areas include fly ash applications, foamed concrete, chloride ingress mitigation, and carbonation resistance. Jones has led numerous projects, including Low Carbon Concretes for Scottish Infrastructure Development (2023–2026) and Development of a Geopolymer Cement from Waste Boiler Ash. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to affordable and clean energy, industry innovation, and climate action.
Notable awards include the Barton A Thomas Award (2007) and the Magazine of Concrete Research Paper of the Year 2012. His contributions span over 144 research outputs, with collaborations in global projects and media features on topics like wave energy concrete and low-carbon construction practices.
