Christophe Granger

Christophe Granger is an Associate Professor with Habilitation to Direct Research (HDR) at the Faculty of Sports Sciences of the University of Paris-Saclay, where he conducts interdisciplinary research at the intersection of sociology, historical analysis, and bodily practices.

Dr. Granger's research program centers on what he conceptualizes as a 'socio-history of bodily capital,' examining how bodily conduct, socializations, and physical embodiment shape social classifications and power relations. His work particularly investigates the construction of 'living sportily' within struggles over legitimate ways of being in society.

His research spans multiple interconnected domains:

• Historical autonomization of sports spaces and spectacularization of sporting activities
• Sociology of bodily practices across various contexts (holidays, sport, beach, work)
• Historical sociology of sensitivities (noise, pain, boredom) as modes of social behavior construction
• Power relations among specialists in 'bodily matters' (medical professionals, legal authorities, State institutions, educational systems)
• Genesis of judgment categories that shape bodily categorizations in the social world
