Christophe Fraser serves as the Moh Family Foundation Professor of Infectious Disease Epidemiology at the University of Oxford, heading Epidemiology at the Pandemic Sciences Institute and leading the Oxford Martin Programme on Digital Pandemic Preparedness. His 25-year career focuses on innovation in infectious disease prevention and public health response across HIV/AIDS, SARS, Ebola, MERS, and antibiotic resistance outbreaks.
His research integrates epidemiological modeling with digital tools, pioneering pathogen genomics for HIV prevention, multi-pathogen sequencing, and privacy-preserving contact tracing systems. During COVID-19, his team developed foundational algorithms for exposure notification apps in collaboration with the UK Department of Health, Google, and Apple—saving over 10,000 lives while generating novel transmission insights on physical distancing, contact dynamics, and variant impacts. Current work explores pandemic resilience through operational-scientific integration, including real-time vaccine evaluation frameworks.
Supported by the Oxford Martin School and Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovation, Fraser's initiatives emphasize cross-sector partnerships with public health implementers and policymakers. He operates as a public health optimist advocating for patience, persistence, and science-driven responses to emerging infections.
Fraser leads a research team driving operational innovations in outbreak response, with demonstrated impact in accelerating genomic surveillance adoption and developing scalable digital pandemic preparedness systems. Their work bridges academic epidemiology with real-world public health implementation across multiple global health crises.
