Christophe Darnault is an Associate Professor in the Department of Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences at Clemson University, part of the College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences (CECAS). He holds a Ph.D. in Environmental and Water Resources Engineering from Cornell University (2000) and a combined M.S. & B.S. in Agricultural, Environmental, and Biological Engineering from Institut Supérieur d'Agriculture, Lille, France (1995).
His research focuses on sustainable engineering solutions for soil and water resource management, including hydrological processes, contaminant transport, and ecohydrology. He develops novel methods for monitoring biological and environmental systems and emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches integrating field investigations, laboratory experiments, and modeling.
Dr. Darnault teaches courses such as Ecological Engineering, Engineering Systems for Soil Water Management, and Biosystems Engineering Capstone Design. His laboratory investigates hydrological fluxes, environmental dynamics, and microbial interactions in natural systems. He serves as an Associate Editor for Frontiers in Environmental Science and Journal of Hydrology, and is a member of AGU, EGU, and ASABE.
Notable honors include membership in Alpha Epsilon and Gamma Sigma Delta honor societies, as well as a Certificate of Appreciation from Cornell University (1998–1999). His work spans over 30 peer-reviewed publications, emphasizing nanomaterial behavior, contaminant transport, and climate-resilient infrastructure.
