معرفی
Christophe Copéret is a Full Professor and Head of the Department of Chemistry and Applied Biosciences at ETH Zurich, Switzerland, where he leads the Laboratory for Inorganic Chemistry. He is a leading researcher at the intersection of molecular, materials, and surface chemistry with significant contributions to catalysis science.
His academic journey includes:
- Graduated in Chemistry from University of Lyon (1992)
- PhD from Purdue University (1996)
- Postdoctoral work with Nobel Laureate K.B. Sharpless at Scripps Research Institute
- Habilitation at University of Lyon (2002)
- Assistant Professor to Professor at University of Lyon (1998-2010)
- Research Director of CNRS (2008-2010)
- Professor at ETH Zurich since 2010
Copéret's research focuses on understanding functional materials at molecular and surface levels with applications in sustainable catalysis, energy conversion, molecular recognition, and microelectronics design. His work bridges fundamental surface science with practical industrial applications, particularly in developing novel catalytic systems. As Head of Department since 2023, he oversees one of ETH Zurich's major research units with significant influence on chemical sciences in Switzerland.
His scientific contributions have been recognized with numerous prestigious awards:
- Rössler Prize, Switzerland's most prestigious research award for young professors (2016)
- P.H. Emmett Award in Fundamental Catalysis, North American Catalysis Society (2015)
- Humboldt Research Award from Germany (2018)
- Election to Academia Europaea (2021)
- Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (2022)
Professor Copéret serves in significant editorial roles as Associate Editor of the Journal of the American Chemical Society (since 2022) and previously as Co-Editor in Chief of Helvetica Chimica Acta (2016-2021). He actively mentors doctoral students and leads research collaborations with industrial partners including Institut Français du Pétrole (IFP) and Ximo. His leadership extends to chairing the Chemistry Roadmap of the Swiss Academy of Sciences and co-founding the Catalysis Hub (SwissCat+).
At ETH Zurich, Copéret directs the Laboratory for Inorganic Chemistry, which houses advanced facilities for materials synthesis and characterization. His research team investigates surface and interface phenomena to develop materials with tailored properties for sustainable chemistry applications. He teaches core chemistry courses including Inorganic Chemistry III and Organometallic Chemistry, emphasizing both theoretical foundations and practical applications in modern chemical research.
