Christophe Bident is Professor of Theater Studies at the University of Picardy Jules Verne and currently serves as Vice-President of its Academic Council. His work stands at the intersection of literature, theater, and philosophy, with a sustained focus on major French authors such as Maurice Blanchot, Bernard-Marie Koltès, and Roland Barthes.
His research interests revolve around the theory and philosophy of theater, the interface between dramatic practice and critical discourse, and the ways in which philosophical concepts illuminate literary and theatrical texts. He investigates how narrative structures and performative gestures mediate existential and epistemological questions.
Bident’s monographs—ranging from early studies of Blanchot to recent reflections on Koltès—trace evolving theoretical frameworks across more than two decades. These works collectively explore the ethics and aesthetics of modern French stage writing and its philosophical underpinnings.
Between 2010 and 2020 he was also a regular theater critic for the Magazine littéraire, situating his scholarly insights within contemporary cultural debate.
