Christoph Schüller

Priv.Doz.Dr. Christoph Schüller is a Senior Scientist and Operative Head of the Core Facility Bioactive Molecules at the Institute of Microbial Genetics, part of the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna (BOKU). He holds a ORCID and has been actively contributing to research in molecular biology, microbiology, and biochemistry since his Habilitation in Genetics (2004) and PhD studies at the University of Vienna (1990-1994).

His research focuses on fungal genetics, particularly Candida glabrata pathogenesis, chromatin remodeling, antimicrobial interactions, and bioactive secondary metabolites. Recent projects include exploring Limosilactobacillus fermentum’s antifungal mechanisms, chemogenomic analysis of Fusarium toxin resistance, and discovering novel antifungal agents from filamentous fungi.

Prof. Schüller has published extensively on topics such as fungal stress responses, ergosterol depletion, mycotoxin biosynthesis, and phosphatase-driven signaling. His work bridges basic genetics with applied antimicrobial research, often involving collaborations across microbiology, biochemistry, and clinical science.

He has served as an Associate Editor for Microbiological Research (2015-), a full member of the Österreichische Gesellschaft für Medizinische Mykologie (1997-), and a member of AAAS (1997-). His supervised theses include 2019 doctoral work on Arabidopsis AAA+ATPase and 2023 research on fungal secondary metabolites (supervised by Schüller A, possibly a relative).
