Christoph Meyer is a Full Professor of European & International Politics at King’s College London, affiliated with the Department of European & International Studies within the School of Politics & Economics. He co-convenes the Research Group on European Foreign Policy and is a member of the King’s Centre for the Study of Intelligence. His research focuses on foreign policy analysis, strategic intelligence, conflict prevention, and EU security and defense policy.
Education: Political Science/Sociology (Hamburg University), MPhil (Cambridge, 1997), PhD (Cambridge, 2001). Prior roles include visiting researcher at Max Planck Institute, Research Associate at Cologne University, Marie Curie Fellow at CEPS, and Lecturer at Birkbeck College London before joining King’s in 2007. He served as Head of the Department of European & International Studies (2012–2015) and Vice-Dean for Research (2016–2020).
Research Interests: EU foreign policy, strategic intelligence, conflict prevention, media roles in conflict, and EU strategic culture. His work bridges International Relations theory with applied policy analysis, emphasizing early warning systems, post-incident reviews, and the intersection of media and diplomacy.
Awards: 2021 ISA Best Book Prize for Warning About War, UK Academy of Social Sciences Fellowship (2020).
Advocacy & Grants: Advised UK House of Lords, German Government’s Afghanistan Enquete Commission, and European Parliament’s SEDE sub-committee. Led ERC-funded projects (FORESIGHT, INTEL) and ESRC grants. Co-edited influential reports on mass atrocity prevention and EU rapid response capabilities.
