Christobel Saunders

Professor Christobel Saunders AO is a Clinical Professor at the University of Western Australia (UWA) within the UWA Medical School's Surgery Department. Her roles include Director of the Cancer and Palliative Care Research and Evaluation Unit, Consultant Surgeon at multiple hospitals, and Chief Medical Officer of OncoRes Medical. She holds leadership positions such as Chair of PathWest Laboratory Medicine and has extensive clinical and research roles in breast and melanoma cancer.

Her research focuses on breast cancer clinical trials, new treatment development (e.g., optical coherence micro-elastography), familial cancer genetics, and health services optimization. She has secured over $54 million in research grants and authored over 200 peer-reviewed papers. Key achievements include Medicare Schedule reforms for breast MRI and intraoperative radiotherapy.
