Christine Shepardson is a Distinguished Professor in the Humanities in the Department of Religious Studies at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She specializes in the history of early Christianity, with a focus on the Mediterranean world during late antiquity, examining theological conflicts and the development of religious orthodoxy.
Education includes:

Her research explores intra-Christian theological struggles, spatial politics of religious controversy, and the role of anti-Jewish rhetoric in shaping Christian orthodoxy. Current work focuses on Syrian Orthodox Christianity and fifth-sixth century political-theological conflicts in the eastern Mediterranean.
Awards and fellowships recognize her scholarly contributions, including support from the National Endowment for the Humanities and American Council of Learned Societies.
