Christine Firer Hinze is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Theology at Fordham University. She previously served as Director of the Francis and Ann Curran Center for American Catholic Studies (2010–2020). Her expertise lies in Christian social ethics, with a focus on economic justice, gender equality, and Catholic social thought. She holds a BA in Religion from the Catholic University of America, an MA in Theology from the same institution, and a PhD in Christian Social Ethics from the University of Chicago.
Her research addresses foundational and applied issues in ethics, including social transformation, economic justice for vulnerable groups, and the intersection of work, family, and gender. Notable publications include Glass Ceilings, Dirt Floors (2015) and Radical Sufficiency (2021). Her work frequently critiques systemic inequalities and advocates for inclusive ethical frameworks grounded in Catholic tradition.
Publications span journals like Theological Studies and Journal of the Society of Christian Ethics, reflecting her engagement with contemporary ethical challenges. She has also co-edited volumes on LGBTQ+ inclusion in the Catholic Church. Hinze’s career includes prior teaching roles at St. Norbert College and Marquette University, alongside community ministry in Detroit.
