Christine Cornea is an Associate Professor in the School of Media, Language and Communication Studies and a member of both the Film, Television and Media department and ClimateUEA at the University of East Anglia. Her research focuses on cultural significance of popular film/TV genres with emphases on gender/sexuality, apocalyptic narratives, and interdisciplinary approaches. She holds a Senior Fellowship from The Higher Education Academy and received the 2020 UEA Engagement Award for her work organizing the Green Film Festival.
Recent research includes a 10-month CAPAS Research Fellowship at Heidelberg University (2022-2023) exploring apocalyptic/postapocalyptic storytelling. She co-led a UKRI-funded transdisciplinary project ('Meeting the Sustainable Development Goals', 2019-2021) and has produced award-winning documentaries on microplastics pollution. Her teaching spans PhD supervision (16 students since 2011) and courses across academic levels, emphasizing participatory filmmaking and critical media analysis.
Key projects include organizing the UEA Green Film Festival and contributing to UN SDG-related initiatives. Media engagements include BBC radio interviews about science fiction films and climate-related documentaries. Her work bridges arts and sciences through participatory methods and environmental humanities frameworks.
