Christine Carson is a Senior Research Fellow at The University of Western Australia's Pathology & Laboratory Medicine department within the UWA Medical School. Her research focuses on antimicrobial agents, particularly tea tree oil (Melaleuca alternifolia), and their applications in combating infections and antibiotic resistance. She has contributed to over 78 publications and led or participated in 27 grant-funded projects, including studies on tea tree oil's efficacy against acne and antibiotic resistance prevention.
Her work spans areas such as flow cytometry-based diagnostics, nanoparticle-embedded antimicrobial materials, and the antiparasitic properties of essential oils. Notable projects include POST-PANDEMIC ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANCE PREPAREDNESS and AUSTRALIAN COVID-19 COUNTERMEASURES. She has engaged in public health advocacy through media contributions addressing antibiotic use, antibacterial handwash regulations, and kidney health.
Carson's research aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in advancing global health and sustainable practices. Her grants include funding from Western Australia's Department of Health and AgriFutures Australia, reflecting her interdisciplinary impact in medicine and agriculture.
