Christine Bustany is a Senior Lecturer in International Law at The Fletcher School, Tufts University. She directs the International Law Practicum and teaches courses in international law, human rights, and comparative constitutional law. Her expertise spans minority rights, immigration detention, and clinical legal education with a regional focus on the Middle East and Global South.
Education: BA in International Relations (Brown University); JD (Fordham University School of Law); studies at Sciences Po (Paris); Fulbright Fellow in Cairo, Egypt.
Research focuses on statelessness, nationality rights, and advocacy in MENA countries. Recent work includes UN-submitted reports on child immigration detention in Thailand and statelessness campaigns in Egypt, Jordan, and Iraq. She has held an IAU research fellowship in France (2022-2023) and is affiliated with the Fares Center for Eastern Mediterranean Studies since 2021.
Professional experience includes roles at Boston University’s International Human Rights Law Clinic, Suffolk University’s nationally-ranked clinical programs, and teaching at the American University of Beirut. Practiced commercial litigation at O’Melveny & Myers in New York and engaged in pro bono human rights litigation before US courts and UN bodies.
