She specializes in wildlife ecology, focusing on urban greenspace management, avian ecology, and the human dimensions of natural resource conservation. Her work emphasizes informing wildlife conservation strategies in the face of global environmental changes.
Dr. Brodsky holds a Ph.D. from the University of Missouri, an M.S. from the University of Delaware, and a B.S. from the University of Massachusetts. Her teaching portfolio includes courses on ecology, field biology, urban ecology, and wildlife management.
Her research explores urban biodiversity, mined-land ecology, and community outreach. She has led initiatives such as the SNAPSHOT USA camera trap surveys, investigating mammalian communities and species distribution patterns across the U.S. Recent projects highlight declining skunk populations, amphibian habitat recovery in post-mined wetlands, and avian vocalization variations across continents.
Dr. Brodsky advocates for undergraduate research opportunities and collaborative approaches to ecological challenges. She advises students in Biology Education, Wildlife Ecology, and Sustainability programs, fostering engagement between academia and the general public through outreach efforts.
Her work integrates ecological science with policy and design, emphasizing sustainable urban planning and biodiversity preservation. Current projects include exploring trait syndromes in urban animals and optimizing survey methods for imperiled species like bats and newts.
