Christine Bandtlow serves as Professor of Medical Biochemistry at the Medical University of Innsbruck, where she directed the Institute of Neurobiochemistry until autumn 2024 and holds the position of Deputy Managing Director of the Biozentrum since its founding in 2002. A leading figure in neuroscience, she maintains extensive international collaborations and third-party funding expertise.
Her academic foundation includes a doctorate in Biology from the University of Konstanz (1988), PhD research at the Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry, and habilitation in Medical Biochemistry at the University of Zurich (1995). This trajectory established her expertise in neurobiological mechanisms and institutional leadership.
Professor Bandtlow's research centers on Neuroscience, Neurobiochemistry, and Medical Biochemistry, driving advancements through the Integrated Research and Therapy Center she co-founded. Her work bridges molecular neurobiology with clinical applications, emphasizing translational neuroscience.
She demonstrates exceptional institutional commitment as a founding member of MUI's research infrastructure and through national service including the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) Board of Trustees (2002–2011) and presidency of the Austrian Neurosciences Association (ANA).
