Dr. Christine B. Cha is an Associate Professor at the Yale Child Study Center and inaugural core faculty member at the Yale Center for Brain and Mind Health. She specializes in clinical psychology with a focus on youth suicide prevention. Her research explores methods to assess, predict, and reduce suicidal behaviors in adolescents, supported by funding from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, and others. Dr. Cha holds a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Harvard University and completed her internship at Brown University’s Warren Alpert Medical School.
She serves on editorial boards for journals such as Journal of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology and received the 2021 Rising Star Award from the Association for Psychological Science. Until 2024, she was Associate Professor of Clinical Psychology and Director of the Laboratory for Clinical and Developmental Studies at Columbia University’s Teachers College, now maintaining an honorary faculty appointment there. Her work integrates neuroscience, cognitive psychology, and clinical intervention to address mental health challenges in children and adolescents.
Key research themes include episodic future thinking, suicide risk screening tools, and neurobiological mechanisms underlying suicidal thoughts. Her lab focuses on translating findings into practical clinical strategies to improve mental healthcare outcomes.
