Professor Christina Vogel is a leading academic in food policy and public health nutrition. She currently serves as the Director of the Centre for Food Policy at City, University of London, while also holding an Adjunct Professorship at the University of Southampton. Her research focuses on designing and evaluating food policies to address population health disparities, reduce inequalities, and promote sustainable food systems through community participation and evidence-based interventions.

Her work adopts a food systems approach to examine how environmental, psychological, and socioeconomic factors influence dietary behaviors. She specializes in natural experiments, policy evaluations, and mixed-methods research to inform legislative changes like the UK’s Food (Promotions and Placement) Regulations and the Healthy Start scheme. Her recent studies analyze supermarket layouts, product placements, and adolescent dietary drivers.
Christina’s research has significantly impacted national policy documents, including the WHO European Regions' 2022 obesity report and UK local authority plans. She is Deputy Editor of Public Health Nutrition and has led major grants from the NIHR Public Health Research Programme, NIHR Policy Research Programme, and the Wellcome Trust.
She supervises six PhD students and has taught across postgraduate programs in food policy, public health, and health sciences. Her teaching includes co-developing EU-funded JobNut’s Public Health Nutrition Intervention Management modules and leading City’s MSc Food Policy course.
