Christina Van Wingerden

Christina Van Wingerden is the Academic Program Director, Field Studies Coordinator, and Instructor for the Human Services Program at Western Washington University's Woodring College of Education. She holds a Ph.D. in Educational Technology and Learning Design from Simon Fraser University, with research focusing on inclusion, sense of belonging, and learning management systems (LMS) as collaborative spaces. Her work bridges educational technology, social justice, and community engagement.

Her research explores student retention in doctoral programs, the role of LMS in fostering peer belonging, and integrating technology for inclusive learning environments. She collaborates with the University of Victoria B.C. on a project about belonging and isolation in higher education.

Van Wingerden oversees the Human Services Program, which combines academic study with field internships, preparing graduates for careers in human services. She coordinates field experiences at Bellingham, Everett, and online platforms. Her teaching emphasizes practical, community-focused education and advocacy.

Her publications span from 2004 to 2024, addressing topics like BYOD technology, leadership in social change, and community-engaged pedagogy. She actively seeks partnerships to enhance internship opportunities for students.

Van Wingerden’s advising and grants focus on student success, field experience quality, and leveraging technology for equitable educational access. She is deeply involved in program development for the Human Services major, ensuring alignment with community needs and professional standards.
