Christina Tasco serves as a Lecturer in Dance and Director of Oakland Dance Theatre at Oakland University's School of Music, Theatre and Dance, where she has been faculty since 2002. She teaches dance technique courses, Kinesiology, and Dance History while maintaining active professional engagements.
Her educational credentials include:
- Bachelor of Health Science from Oakland University
- Master of Exercise Science from Oakland University
Tasco's research focuses on the biomechanics of dance performance and injury prevention, particularly examining muscular strength and flexibility impacts on dancer physiology. Her expertise extends to figure skating training through collaborations with elite athletes at the Detroit Skating Club, applying exercise science principles across performing arts disciplines.
Her distinguished recognition includes:
- Most Outstanding Student Master’s Thesis Presentation (American College of Sports Medicine)
- Consecutive Most Inspiration Professor awards (2014-2015)
- Order of the Plume for student inspiration (2018)
With extensive experience teaching master classes nationwide and choreographing for institutions including Walled Lake Central and The Hartland Players, Tasco has mentored numerous students through Oakland Dance Theatre and Eisenhower Dance Detroit. Her administrative leadership includes directing EDD's education outreach program and managing multiple studio locations across Michigan.
