Christina Sharpe is a Professor and Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Black Studies at York University's Department of Humanities, Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies. She is also a Senior Research Associate at the Centre for the Study of Race, Gender & Class at the University of Johannesburg. Holding a PhD and MA from Cornell University and a BA from the University of Pennsylvania, her work bridges Black diasporic literature, visual culture, and feminist/queer theory.

Her research focuses on Black diaspora visual cultures, Black feminist theory, and post-slavery studies. Recent works include Ordinary Notes (2023), which won the Hilary Weston Prize and was a National Book Award finalist. Upcoming projects include What Could a Vessel Be? (2026) and Black. Still. Life. (2027).
Awards include the 2024 Windham-Campbell Prize, Guggenheim Fellowship, and 2025 Killam Prize. Her essays appear in Frieze, Paris Review, and Harper's.
Her advisory roles include appointments at York's Faculty of Graduate Studies. Current research explores intersections of Black studies, visual arts, and existential thought.
