Christina Picken is a Research Associate in Materials Engineering at the University of Manchester, affiliated with the Sustainable Materials Innovation Hub. Her work focuses on developing eco-friendly polymers for applications in healthcare, water purification, and consumer products. She holds a master’s from the University of Reading and a PhD from University College London, with industry experience at Johnson Matthey, United Therapeutics, and Vianautis.
Her research emphasizes environment-responsive polymers such as pH-sensitive gels and biodegradable materials, alongside initiatives to improve sustainability in laboratory practices. She led efforts to achieve the first gold LEAF accreditation at the University of Manchester. Picken collaborates with industry partners like Unilever and has been recognized with the 2023 Making a Difference Award in Social Responsibility.
