Dr Silviya Halacheva is a Lecturer in Chemistry and Physics at the University of Buckingham's Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. She holds an MSc from Sofia University (2001) and a PhD in Polymer Chemistry from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (2008). Her research focuses on polymer, colloid, and biomaterials science, particularly in stimuli-responsive polymers, nanostructured multilayers, and pH-responsive gels for medical applications.
Key research areas include biocompatible surfaces for controlled drug delivery, injectable gels for tissue repair, and sustainable detergency applications. Her work has been funded by the EPSRC, notably for developing minimally invasive osteoarthritis treatments using multifunctional gel scaffolds.
Dr Halacheva has published over 30 articles in high-impact journals and received two international awards for smart polymer colloid research. Her expertise spans interdisciplinary projects in polymer physics, materials characterization (e.g., neutron scattering), and biomedical applications.
