Lee Fielding

Dr. Lee Fielding is a Senior Lecturer in Polymer Chemistry at the School of Materials, University of Manchester, and serves as Head of Education for Materials Science and Engineering. His research focuses on the synthesis and application of polymers and polymer colloids in sustainable materials, biomedical diagnostics, and advanced composites.

His group employs controlled radical polymerization techniques like RAFT and PISA to create nanocomposites, hydrogels, and 3D-printable materials. Current projects include

• Sustainable waterborne coatings
• Thermally responsive sensors
• Graphene-based composites
• Biomedical diagnostics

Collaborations span academia and industry, with affiliations to the Henry Royce Institute and Sustainable Materials Innovation Hub.

Scientific contributions include Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), membership in the Royal Society of Chemistry (MRSC), and the Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining (MIMMM). He has supervised over 10 PhD students and secured grants for projects like SUSTICOAT and Biophilica.
